Loyalty cards

Here at trnd, we’re a loyal bunch (who also love to try new things, of course) but this got us to thinking - what do the trnd community think about loyalty cards?

How many loyalty cards do you have? All manner of businesses offer customer loyalty cards these days from coffee shops to supermarkets to airlines. The rewards are varied: you might get a free coffee when you’ve paid for 9, you might get money off for every pound spent or you might get perks such as gig tickets and free entry to exhibitions.

Do loyalty cards make a difference to you? If you have a Nero loyalty card, for example, would you walk past Costa to get there? Or travel further to get to a Boots than a Superdrug?

Do you love loyalty cards?

I have an app on my phone to keep all my loyalty cards

Crapcook63 • 04/07/2017 - 14:56

I have loyalty cards for most stores but before I go to shop I check online to see where is cheapest

I believe we are paying for the points so we might as well collect them. Some are of higher value than others but as I'm better at collecting than spending them I've just done a quick tot up and I have; £30 to spend in 1 supermarket and £45.50 in another, £15 in Boots Advantage points, 2other cards with approx. £5 on and enough for 2 free coffees all have be earned on things I would have bought anyway. I keep a credit card wallet just for these cards and don't find using them any hassle.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.

@Lucky_Orlando, sounds like you're definitely getting your money's worth.

Anyway, we're off to go and pick up a few more loyalty guys!

I love my loyalty cards they come in handy at the end of the month when money is tight and you can buy every day essentials with the points you have earned. Big thumbs 👍🏼 From me.

I love loyalty cards and I have quite a few but I don't go out of way to visit places that have them unless they have special promotions on.

natasha.ingle • 05/07/2017 - 18:10

Boots do awesome promotions - got £10 of points recently for spending more than £50 and I would've spent that anyway as was getting some perfume - works out like a huge discount, happy days! :)

Loyalty cards are a great perk! Love collecting points and vouchers for money I would be spending anyway!

JobieLouise • 05/07/2017 - 20:22

I love collecting points on my loyalty cards! Always a nice surprise when you want/need something and you have enough points to treat yourself

scotgaljess • 05/07/2017 - 20:32

Loyalty cards are great, it all mounts up, I'm just about to buy myself a new £100 mobile phone yay! Xx

Ellebell89 • 05/07/2017 - 20:33

I never used To bother until my dad told me how many points he had received from a supermarket card he was using regularly! It seemed completely stupid of me to not be doing the same, so I now have multiple and enjoy the benefits!

HoneyBear • 05/07/2017 - 21:06

Love love love gaining points from loyalty cards!!!

PastaQueen • 05/07/2017 - 21:19

You can name the card and I've probably got it! Everywhere I go if there is a loyalty card I will get one, drives the kids mad! I save all my Nectar points for Xmas ( about £200 a year) so all my Christmas food is FREE!!! Great x

Joannetoyou • 05/07/2017 - 21:56

I absolutely love loyalty cards. Think I have a one for most shops that do them. My favourite one is boots..it has saved me a fortune this year as got all my sun cream for my family's holiday without spending a penny 😊

ClaireKlighting • 07/07/2017 - 17:20

I love my loyalty cards so much it drives my husband mad. Got a great app now to store them all in one place x

cillstime • 07/07/2017 - 17:38

nectar is the one I use most though only use it if I was going to make a purchase in that particular place anyway

Twincats • 10/07/2017 - 17:07

I have loyalty cards for the main supermarkets. I would travel 5-10 miles if there was a major deal on something like school uniform or a high value purchase. I would rather download an app for eating out or look for a voucher rather than stay loyal to one place.

Giggles04 • 12/07/2017 - 18:16

Yes, love using the loyalty cards. Especially if it is stuff you are going to buy anyway, why not enjoy the perks, and rewards. Sometimes I will go out of my way to spend at a supermarket with a loyalty card, rather than one that doesn't offer any points or perks. I like Sainsburys reward card, they are always offering extra points, I also love Waitrose's free coffee too! Fab perk!

Citygirl • 17/07/2017 - 22:42

I love using loyalty cards! Joined the parenting club with boots after I found out I was pregnant, and the points really mount up! Also Costa card helps buy a coffee or two whilst on mat leave!! I've also a Superdrug one, Nectar card and Tesco one too!
