The problem with many gadgets and tricks to help one sleep is that they're often band aid solutions that don’t address the root cause. The root cause being our stressed out, over functioning, exhaustingly ambitious minds that struggles to switch off or be content as they are. Sound familiar? The hardest thing for most people to do is to do nothing at all, which is a fairly accurate description of falling asleep.

The Gravity Blanket tackles insomnia by focuses more on the body and transforming the physical symptoms of an over active mind. It weighs much more than your average blanket (15-25lb) and here’s why: having around 10 percent of your body weight on top of you can cause the release compounds like serotonin which are very important for sleep, relaxation and reducing anxiety. Anyone who feels better after a big bear-hug will know this to be true.

So, although it still seems like another band aid solution, it is a really big, rather heavy, and incredibly comfy band aid that might just do the trick. After collecting $3 million on Kickstarter, it’s safe to say that it’s got a few people excited, and if you’ve got a spare $250 USD lying around it could very well improve your sleep also.
