Coming Up Roses

Thanks to generous WaterAid supporters, life is drastically different for the pupils at Lubunda School. The days when girls would stay home and miss out on vital lessons because of their periods are a distant memory. Now, they’re ruling the school and thinking about their future.

With your help, we'll be able to tell many more stories just like Claudia's ©WaterAid/Chileshe Chanda

Claudia, the singing star of our video, doesn’t just have dreams for her future; she has the confidence to know that nothing can stand her way.

“When I grow up I want to be a nurse. I see nurses taking care of the children, and others giving out vaccines – that’s when I decided, I want to be a nurse. I want to complete my education and go to college. There are no nurses in the family – yes, I’ll be the first.”

And teacher Alice is making the most of the supply of fresh water to help her vegetable garden thrive.

“I’m going to grow carrots, onions, tomatoes and cabbages – a variety of vegetables. It’s very easy now with a tap nearby. Most of the teachers have gardens now. We have very nice bananas around here!”

When it’s cold and dark outside, it warms your cockles to think that transformations like these are taking place in schools and villages all over the world right now. These fresh starts and bright futures simply wouldn’t be possible without your help. Thank you so much for your support.
