Goodbye and thank you

We've come to the end of Project Sunshine and what an experience it's been!

A mountain of happiness! ©WaterAid/Chileshe Chanda

You’ve all been incredibly creative in sharing Claudia’s story and your own version of the song. Your contribution to this project will make a massive difference to the lives of so many people.

There’s just one more small favour we’d like to ask. If you can spare three minutes, we’d love for you to fill in a final survey.

This is WaterAid’s chance to ask you a few questions about this campaign, what you think of Claudia’s song and why you support their work. It won’t take long and WaterAid really value hearing what you think, so please make your voice heard.

Fill in WaterAid Survey

Sharing is caring and you couldn’t find a better example than this project. By sharing the video and encouraging others to support the work WaterAid do, you’re helping to transform the lives of some of the world’s poorest people. That deserves a truly enormous THANK YOU! We look forward to your continued support on a new project very soon.

Coming Up Roses

Thanks to generous WaterAid supporters, life is drastically different for the pupils at Lubunda School. The days when girls would stay home and miss out on vital lessons because of their periods are a distant memory. Now, they’re ruling the school and thinking about their future.

With your help, we'll be able to tell many more stories just like Claudia's ©WaterAid/Chileshe Chanda

Claudia, the singing star of our video, doesn’t just have dreams for her future; she has the confidence to know that nothing can stand her way.

“When I grow up I want to be a nurse. I see nurses taking care of the children, and others giving out vaccines – that’s when I decided, I want to be a nurse. I want to complete my education and go to college. There are no nurses in the family – yes, I’ll be the first.”

And teacher Alice is making the most of the supply of fresh water to help her vegetable garden thrive.

“I’m going to grow carrots, onions, tomatoes and cabbages – a variety of vegetables. It’s very easy now with a tap nearby. Most of the teachers have gardens now. We have very nice bananas around here!”

When it’s cold and dark outside, it warms your cockles to think that transformations like these are taking place in schools and villages all over the world right now. These fresh starts and bright futures simply wouldn’t be possible without your help. Thank you so much for your support.

Share the video with #sharesunshine, spread the word, and encourage your friends to help young women like Claudia have a happy and healthy future.

Get Creative

Claudia is the real star of the show, but we noticed you’ve been busy too...

Channel your inner Claudia and get creative! ©WaterAid/Brian Riley

You've done a great job of sharing Claudia's Story and we’ve been really impressed with how creative some of you have been with your blogs and collages – we want even more!

We know a few of you are a little shy. Maybe you don’t love your singing voice or you’d rather not be on camera? If that’s the case, get creative! Remember, this is for a brilliant cause – together we’re raising awareness about WaterAid’s work and the difference clean water makes.

Share Claudia’s video with #ShareSunshine, or think of other ways to get involved. Are you any good at making photo montages? You could edit all of your favourite summer sun pictures together, with a link to the ‘Sunshine on a Rainy Day’ video? Always fancied yourself as an actor? Say the lyrics instead! The more creative you can be, the better – your talents will help spread the word about the difference that clean water makes.

Take a look at how Sandy Beales, a bass guitarist who's worked with One Direction, has helped spread Claudia's message. Get inspired and go #sharesunshine!

GLOW - A valuable lesson

A lack of proper toilets affects everyone, but especially girls, who often miss out on education because they don’t have somewhere safe and private to go to the loo at school. Thanks to our support, this is changing.

The impact of GLOW has been amazing ©WaterAid/Chileshe Chanda

At Lubunda School, girls are no longer struggling to keep up – they’re running the show! Claudia and her friends are part of the GLOW club – Girls Leading Our World.

Let’s do something good today and help others take control of their lives by sharing below with #sunshine and the URL http://bit.ly/2eEZWAY so friends know where to donate!:

The club was started by Claudia’s teacher, Alice. She noticed how many girls were dropping out of school when their periods started because they lacked privacy and the means to stay clean and healthy.

Alice says:

“I want to see that every pupil in my school and every woman in the community is free from the diseases that are caused by using the wrong materials when they’re on their period. I want them to be comfortable. That’s my dream.”

Alice designed sanitary towels that the girls could make and, with generous donations from supporters, WaterAid helped her expand the project so that girls in the village are no longer held back when they have their periods.

“I have seen the change in their performance and attendance,” Alice told us. “Our school motto is ‘The seeds of today are the flowers of tomorrow.’ Of course, seeds need water to grow.

By taking part in this project, we’re helping those flowers to grow. Thank you so much, get sharing and we’ll have your next challenge waiting for you soon!

The progress you’re helping to make possible

In 2014/15, thanks to the generous support it received, WaterAid reached a massive 2 million people with safe water. That’s 2 million people whose lives will never be the same again.

Take Claudia and her best friends, who feature in the ‘Sunshine on a Rainy Day’ video. They no longer have to miss school to walk to unsafe and dirty water sources. Instead, they’re concentrating on their lessons and brimming with confidence about what their futures hold.

Gracious hopes to become a pilot. She’d like to jet people to the UK, the USA and South Africa – and even though she’s never travelled by plane before, she’s sure this won’t stand in the way of a high-flying career in aviation.

Precious, tall with cropped hair, the most shy of the girls, wants to be a solider: “I love training – for soccer and running. And kung fu!”

“She likes Jackie Chan,” Jessy explained, as Gracious flashed a karate pose.

When Gracious was asked if she thought she was stronger than the boys – “of course” was the instant reply.

By helping to share the video of Claudia’s Story, we’re helping to inspire others to get involved and support. That’s a big deal. It means more children can enjoy being children.

If you haven’t already, show everyone that you’re helping turn dreams in to realities.

  • Step 1 - share her video by clicking the logo (or logos!) of the network you'd like to share on below.

  • Step 2 - Add the URL http://www.wateraid.org/sunny to your post along with #sharesunshine so people know exactly where they can go and donate.

  • Step 3 - Encourage your friends to help bring some sunshine to others by tagging them in the post and encouraging them to share too.

Safe water and toilets transform lives and futures. They are human rights that should be available to everybody, and yet 1 in 10 people still live without clean water and 1 in 3 without a safe toilet.

Let’s get sharing and be part of changing this statistic for the better.
