Keep capsules away from kids (and what to do in case of an emergency)

Make safety a top priority during your laundry routine for family and loved ones. Whether it’s weeks' worth of laundry or just a small load, there are many ways to protect your family throughout the laundry process by simply applying a few home safety tips.

The team at Fairy Non Bio have put a lot of thought into the safe usage and storage of detergents in the home. That’s why, as well as creating dedicated child-safe packaging, they also have teamed up with Safe Kids Worldwide to share advice on what to do in case of emergencies.

It’s important to remember that when used and stored correctly, liquid detergent capsules are safe. So you may use them for every laundry load, but let’s spend a moment thinking about storage when you have little ones in the house.

Bear these four things in mind to keep capsules away from kids:

1. Never leave capsules unattended within the reach of children
2. Choose a child-resistant package, like Fairy Non Bio Child-Lock pack, whenever possible
3. Use the product immediately after opening the pack and close the pack with a click after each use
4. Store the pack on a high shelf or in a locked cupboard (and in its original click-close packaging)

👄 If swallowed 👅

Rinse mouth
Do NOT induce vomiting
Immediately call a Poison Control Centre/ doctor

👁 If in eyes or skin 🤚

Rinse cautiously with water for several minutes
Seek medical advice as needed
If exposures to the skin or clothing occur, remove contaminated clothing and rinse skin well with water. Read the product safety information provided on the package.

Remember: Use liquid laundry capsules safely. Always close the packs with a click and store out of reach and sight of children.

I Always close the lid.. my son is non verbal and would never be able to tell me what he has swallowed so I need to be extra vigilant.. love the new packaging guys

I always close the lid but sometimes we don’t get the washing machine on immediately... all changing now. Tablet out and wash on straight away

Yes I alway close the lid tightly and put the tablet straight into the washing machine and wash goes on straight away.. Although I do have to remind my husband at times to close the lid as he forgets.. I'm much more aware of it now since starting this project.. #ChildSafetyAtHome #FairyNonBio

Store my detergent in a high cupboard in our laundry room. I try my best to keep all cleaning products there as those colourful bottles and packets are very inviting to little ones. I do my best to always close the lid on packets straight away. #ChildSafetyAtHome

I always close the lid! And I store them in a press with a child safety lock on it, my little ones do ask to help with the washing but I never leave them touch the liquid tabs!

Have to be honest don't always put the wash on straight away, but will change that habit now. This project is making me more aware and I'm making micro changes to be more safe. #ChildSafetyAtHome #FairyNonBio

I think I have OCD when it comes to closing the lid on the box, I check it at least 2-3 times to make sure it is closed, just had my grand children for a few days and the little one is obsessed with the washing machiene.

I have the same concerns when closing the lid even though I keep it well out of reach of inquisitive little ones! The younger grandchildren love the washing machine too so I’d always be too nervous not to turn it on straight away and usually have to keep them out of the utility room as they can reach the controls and would happily turn it off mid cycle otherwise!

I have to say that sometimes i have forgotten to close lid but as i always store them high I thought it was safe enough until recently my eldest kicked a football knocked the tub resulting is some falling out and caught my toddler eye immediately, hes fast a crawling but not as fast as his mammy😂 needless to say lesson learned and now I double check I always close the lid firmly, its just about changing small things to make it more safe for my family

One thing I've realised after reading this is I would never have thought of ringing a poison control centre if something was to happen. Thanks for the helpful tips #childsafetyathome

I always put my washing tablets up high, I love the new boxes with the childlock, I have to say I even had trouble opening it, my little one is getting very interested in washing machine so I never let him out in the utility. I am more aware of the dangers thanks to this project 😀

I cant look away and my toddler is in to everything and anything. I now don’t load the laundry until bedtime and if I have to do a day wash it’s loaded straight away away from prying eyes. Storage now involved a double child locked press for the “dangerous” liquids & powders. The new fairy boxes will be an added godsend. #FairyNonBio #ChildSafetyAtHome

I used to close the lid but not double check it was closed. Since signing up to this, I've made a change to remember to do it properly. Theres no way my kids would ever reach the shelf above the washing machine and dryer but it's better safe then sorry.

Got my starter kit today, yes, there were only 12 samples in it when I recieved it, box well battered so items may have got misplaced/dislodged , a pity I have given some samples to neighbours with small childern and the research cards, safety stickers and note pads with safety tips, unfortunatly I have only a few to give. So I wont able to complete the task required by me to the full ,as full size pack of fairy non bio pods not included in the pack.

Yes I always close the lid and have all household products and chemicals stored in a press up high,find it’s easy to become complacent as a parent/carer when you are doing the same things everyday so since the campaign started I have cleaned out press to make sure things are not stacked making them a falling hazard/checked lids are tight and put a child lock on the doors as my 3 year old now likes to test out climbing,the campaign has made me more aware and reminded me to keep doing safety checks as my children grow

I didn’t always close the lid.i keep the laundry things in a high press but forget that he is growing rapidly and learning to climb and one day may be able to open that press. Possibly sooner than I think! I know know better to close the lid immediately after each use.

This article highlights key issues and highlights the severity that 'could/might' occur if children are exposed to detergents. Always seal and stack them high up.

I have given out my Fairy Tabs to friends who are grannies like myself and to some young couples with small children. everyone very impressed. a lot of the grannies like myself had never saw the danger of washing tabs, the colour and make up makes them attractive.
We have seen the light, thanks for this great warning and information. hopefully the word will be passed on to others.

I always store them in the taper child proof box on a shelf above head high. I’ve spread the word to family and friends about the importance of storing washing and cleaning products out of reach of little hands

Hi i always ensure to close the lid and store back in the press but daddy can be a little forgetful at putting them back so he had to be reminded of the dangers. I will continue to spread the word to all my family and friends thanks

I used to keep mine in the cupboard under the sink as all my children are now adults. But since I have become a grandparent, all that has changed. All my laundry supplies are now kept in a high cupboard, with a child lock on as well, just in case.

I always close the box and store it up high but if it happened to be in child's reach I don't think she could open it. I struggled at first to open the new saftolock on them is great 😊

I always used the pods but when I had kids I changed to the powder as I was afraid of them getting near the pods after hearing so many stories. But I'm delighted with the new packaging as it feels a much safer option. While I would still put them in a locked press it feels much safer to have them in the house.

I always store my cleaning equipment including the fairy non bio pods in their original containers and in a locked cupboard under the sink, I make it a ritual to always lock the cupboard back up so little hands can't get into anything they shouldn't... I think the new safety lock on the box is amazing child proofing, the only thing I would say is that someone with arthritis would struggle to open the box.

I'm usually quite good to remember to close the packaging and put them away, but as my toddler gets older he also gets more clever at figuring out places to climb, things to open etc so now I have to *make sure* I close them and they are as much out of reach as possible.

I always keep washing powder/pods up out of the way of my toddler so she can't get near them. I find the new fairy safety lock on the packs very good as she can't get them open like she could with other packs
